Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston Sues Jeweler For $50M
Jul 20, 2001/ FW/ -- Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston filed a $50 million lawsuit against
Jeweler Silvia Grassi Damiani (and her Italian-based company Damiani International) for
breach on contract.
Damiani designed the couples wedding rings - white gold bands connected by diamonds. Brad's
ring contains 10 diamonds and engraved with "Jen 2000." Jennifer's ring contains 20 diamonds
and engraved with "Brad 2000."
Part of the agreement between the couple and Damiani when they commissioned the rings was that
Damiani will never replicate the rings, keep quiet about the design (before the wedding) and
throw away the mold. In return, the couple will acknowledge Damiani's work.
On the lawsuit filed by Brad's and Jennifer's lawyer, Attorney John H. Lavely Jr., at the
U.S. District Court in Los Angeleslast Wednesday, says that "Damiani
not only replicated the rings, but also offered them for sale on the Internet and at stores
in Palm Desert and Las Vegas.
The rings being sold by Damiani are two concentric bands in 18 karat white or yellow
gold connected by either 12 or 13 diamonds. They cost about $1,000 apiece, must
be custom-ordered and take two months to make.
Pitt and Aniston's lawsuit seeks an injunction that would stop sales.
According to the couple's legal complaint, Damiani used the rings to garner "the type of
publicity that money can't buy: The purported endorsement and sponsorship of perhaps the
world's most recognizable couple."
