Lanvin Cuts Ties with Christina Ortiz
Paris Pret-A-Porter Fashion Week Spring 2002
By Jessica Michault

Sep 18, 2001/ FWD/ --- French fashion house Jeanne Lanvin announced that it is severing its ties with women's wear designer Christina Ortiz.

The Spanish born designer has been with the house since 1997, when Lanvin whisked her away from Prada, where she worked side by side with Miuccia Prada for two years.

Ortiz designed a modern line of clothing for Lanvin, graceful and uncomplicated in its silhouettes. Some argue, however, that her years at Prada overshadowed these collections and she never found her own voice at the French house. Nor did she galvanize the Lanvin label into a powerhouse, like another young designer who started the same year as head designer at another house, Stella McCartney for Chloe.

With the decision to end its collaboration with Ortiz, Lanvin stated that it would not present a collection at the upcoming ready-to-wear shows in Paris. There is no word yet on Ortiz's successor.
