After Catwalk Events
Postponed or Cancelled for London Fashion Week
London Fashion Week Spring 2002
By: Sasha Wilkins

London,Sep 13, 2001/ FWD/ --- The British fashion industry is still facing uncertainty about how to tackle London Fashion Week in the light of the appalling events of the past week.

Although no official request has been made by the British Fashion Council to cancel off catwalk events, in contrast to the announcement yesterday by organizers in Milan, many designers feel it is inappropriate to host evening after-parties and events.

Amongst those who have voluntarily decided to postpone their events is Pink Ribbon, the Breast Cancer awareness magazine, who was organizing the American Express sponsored gala “Night of Fashion” at the Natural History Museum on Saturday night.

American Express' London PR told FWD: "The tragic disaster has left a feeling of disbelief and horror amongst us all. In the interest of security and as a mark of respect to the innocent victims of this terrible act, Pink Ribbon and American Express have taken the mutual decision to postpone the event.”

Burberry has also cancelled its party on Wednesday evening to benefit Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

The rumor mill in London is currently going into overdrive, with many unsubstantiated reports of shows being cancelled. However, none of the fashion PRs that FWD spoke to was willing to confirm if they were going to cancel their scheduled catwalk shows. It appears that many designers are still in two minds as to whether they will show or not.

Shows that FWD has been told are definitely going ahead include Burberry Prorsum, Ghost, Maria Grachvogel, Rafael Lopez, Matthew Williamson, Carlos Miele and Tristan Webber.

Teresa Ramsden, head of PR at Paul Smith women told FWD, "I know there are countless rumors flying around but, at the moment, we are definitely still going ahead, unless we are given reason to cancel."

At the moment it seems as though the majority of the shows will go ahead, but with very few of the glitzy parties that is part and parcel of London Fashion Week.
