July 27, 2001/ FWD/ -- Supermodel Linda Evangelista -- who once proclaimed it would take $10,000 just to get
her slinky legs out of bed -- is defecting from top modeling agency Wilhelmina.
Her long-time manager Didier Hernandes -- who tagged along with the 5-foot-9 stunner when she fled from the
Elite agency years ago after severing ties with her president/husband Gerald Marie -- had nothing much to say,
except, "She was here and now she's gone."
Hernandes denies reports that say he will be leaving, and insists he will continue representing the likes of
other supermodels like Amber Valetta and Nadja Auermann under Wilhelmina.
Evangelista's lawyer Lawrence Shire denied comment on the issue and would only confirm that the bombshell --
who is under attack from PETA for signing a deal with fur designers Blackglama -- has definitely left the
building. Vogue editors, who will be featuring the Canadian-born beauty on their cover in September, also
had no comment.
And a spokesperson for Elite President Monique Pallard - who represents models Maggie Rizer and Elsa Benitez --
can only say that she saw it coming: "She [Pallard] thinks that Didier is a great agent. But when he left with
Linda, she wasn't entirely convinced that it would work within the framework of the Wilhemina agency, and now
it looks like what she had predicted has come to pass."
