Harrison Wong Goes Solo
New York Fashion Week Spring 2004
NEW YORK, Aug 7, 2003/ FW/ --- Harrison Wong entered the New York fashion scene via Re:visions,
a group show last season (Fall 2003) by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.
For Spring 2004, the Hong Kong-based designer is going solo, presenting his Spring 2004
collection on Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at 5pm at the Bleecker Street Theatre
(45 BLEECKER STREET).
Though the designer has not announced yet what is the inspiration for his Spring 2004
collection, it is something to look forward to, based on his showing last season.
At Re:visions, Wong went back to the 1920s and the Jazz age as his muse for his collection.
With updated flapper tunics in chiffon matched with cigarette pants, the
young designer showed creativity that belied his youth.
The collection received strong sales inquiries. Because of the positive response,
Wong felt the time is right to showcase his work independently and make his mark here
outside his native Hong Kong.
Thirty-one year-old Wong received his first hand experience in fashion design from
Walter Ma, a renowned Hong Kong fashion designer where he worked for 6 years.
In 1996, when he was only 24, he won the Hong Kong Young Designer of the Year, followed
by a special award for Asian fashion at the Grand Prix Contest, held by the Association
of Total Fashion in Japan.
He obtained his masters with distinction from the London College of Fashion.
After graduation, he launched his first label, "Final Collection", a high-end boutique
line.
He was also tapped by the Hong Kong-based retail fashion chain Mastina as their design
director, a position he continues to hold.
Definitely a name to watch, Harrison Wong going solo for the Spring 2004 New York season
is a show to look forward to if you are in the look out for new talents.
