Oct 1, 2001/ FWD/ --- T-shirts with a naked woman quite literally depicted as a piece of meat have been pulled
from clothing chain Urban Outfitters following customers’ complaints.
The men's shirt in question refers to the woman as "tender juicy beef" and shows a kneeling, nude cowgirl with
her body parts labeled after parts of beef, like soup bone for her thigh and chuck for her shoulder.
After seeing the shirt at a local Urban Outfitters, Linda Anderson, senior administration assistant in the Women's
and Gender Studies Program at Yale University, asked to have it removed from stores.
"Anything that objectifies women so blatantly is dangerous," Anderson told the Yale Daily News. "For me, this was
the literal dismemberment of a woman's body," she added.
A store operations assistant in Philadelphia said there had been "a few" complaints from the public. The employee
said that the company took their customers' concerns "into consideration" and "the shirt is not typical of Urban
Outfitters and we recognize that."
