CHANCE: Chanel's New Fragrance

DALLAS, Aug 30, 2002/ FW/ -- There's a new fragrance from Jacques Polge, CHANEL master perfumer - CHANCE. Created for young women who aren't afraid to dare and who imagine a world where expectations are turned upside down just like chance itself.

The CHANCE scent features waves of extreme freshness which collide with floral notes and merge with sensual, sweet and spicy elements.

To help launch the new scent, an internet survey of 1,500 college students ages 17-21 and young professionals ages 22-29 was conducted by 360 Youth on behalf of CHANEL.

The survey revealed that even in this high-tech world, people still believe in romance.

Majority of the repspondents said they are willing to take chances to meet the love of their lives, the rules of the dating game have not changed.

More than half of those surveyed believe in love at first sight (58%), and when asked what they would most likely take a chance on, 31% cited love, followed by traveling around the world (23%) and owning their own business (18%).

Despite the proliferation of technology, the vast majority of young adults still prefer to ask someone out in-person (60%), vs. the telephone (18%) or through e-mail (7%). Moreover, 61% of young adults wait 2-3 days following a first date to set up the second.

When it comes to the perfect date accessory, good hair and a great fragrance top the list.

More than a third of young adults (35%) cite hair as the most important physical factor in the search for love, while another quarter (24%) consider fragrance to be the most essential date item.

While men and women disagree on the value of a good hair day -- 30% of men put it first compared to 40% of women -- they agree on the impact of a great fragrance.

CHANEL has also launched CHANCECHANEL.com, an exciting new mini-site that invites visitors to send a postcard to a love interest with a short message and a sample of CHANCE.

Weekly polls, survey results and a "chance encounter" offer entertaining, interactive elements that promise to make the mini-site a hot destination for the young ... and the young at heart.
