Estee Lauder Lights Up Landmarks

NEW YORK, Oct 3, 2002/ -- Leaders in more than 19 countries will join Estee Lauder in its third annual Global Landmarks Illumination Initiative, which will light major sites around the world in pink throughout October, Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Today Evelyn Lauder, senior vice president of the Estee Lauder Companies, is throwing the first switch, at the John A. Wilson District Building and National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C. Tomorrow the Empire State Building will be awash in pink. Other participating landmarks include Graceland, Niagara Falls, Harrods, the Tower of Pisa, City Hall and Esterhazy Castle in Vienna, the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, and Paris' Place de la Concorde.

For 10 years, Estee Lauder has distributed pink ribbons at its cosmetic counters worldwide and often donates proceeds from special product sales to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, a non-profit founded by Evelyn Lauder in 1993.

Last week in New York, Mrs. Lauder was joined by company spokeswoman Elizabeth Hurley for the launch of her book, "An Eye for Beauty." All royalties from sales of this collection of Lauder's nature photography will benefit the BCRF.
