Nair survey discover how different nations measure up when it comes to fuzzy armpits and fancy bikini lines
LONDON, Jun 30, 2002/ FW/ -- A new survey conducted in the UK by Nair released last Friday revealed that British women
are fanatical about body hair.
Depilatory experts Nair lift the lid on this prickly issue with a new survey, which shows
how different nations measure up when it comes to attitudes to hair removal and bodily fuzz.
Here are what the survey found out:
The myths about global body hair trends:
- According to the Nair survey, the British consider their fellow Europeans to be less
particular about hair removal compared to the Brits.
Just over half (52%) of those surveyed associate Germans with having hairy armpits.
Next in line were the French with four in ten (40%) respondents thinking they were likely to
wear their pit hair long and bushy.
- Clean cut Americans were considered more civilized in their grooming habits, with only one
per cent of respondents linking them with hairy armpits (with the exception of Julia Roberts!).
- When it comes to topiary down under new international trends definitely prevail, with over
a quarter of British women in the survey admitting to wanting to try a drastic restyle of their
bikini line.
Topping the trim trends was the "Hollywood" (going totally bare) with 14 per cent of the vote
followed by the "Brazilian" with one in 10 women opting for the landing strip approach.
While 3 per cent of British women would consider a down under dye job - red, white and blue!
Only 7% of women admitted to leaving it au naturel à la Française.
And the facts about British fuzz:
The pits...
Four in ten (41%) women can't bear to develop a five o'clock shadow in their pits and are fanatical about removing it almost as soon as it appears.
Only 3% will let it all hang out.
The pins...
Over a quarter (29%) of women claimed to be religious about de-fuzzing their legs. Whilst two thirds of women (66%) were guilty of letting leg hair mature to a short and fuzzy state
And the bikini line…
One fifth of British women's most neglected spot is the bikini line.
When is fuzz a faux pas?:
The Nair survey went on to show that British women are savvy about when it come to defuzzing. Body hair removal is a regular part of most women's (38%), beauty routine. However, some women are not shy of a little growth and their hair removal routine is subject to peaks and troughs depending on external factors:
Over a quarter of women (28%) adapt their hair removal routine according to the season
Two in ten are more likely to remove body hair before an intimate liaison
Only two per cent do it to please their partner.
