Celeb Stylist Phillip Bloch Reaches Out to the Masses
By: Jenny Bailly
NEW YORK, Nov 15, 2001/ --- He's dressed the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Aniston, now
Hollywood stylist Phillip Bloch is bringing his fashion acumen to the Internet masses.
Beginning in January 2002, Bloch will be providing fashion tips and trend watches for eBay's
new Designer Boutique section.
The pairing of a stylist to the stars and a site whose home page currently offers Florida
voting machines from the 2000 election and a Civil War cavalry sword seems a strange one.
But according to Bloch, "eBay is fashion's best kept secret." The shy spin-meister continues:
"The combination is fabulous: my fashion know-how and eBay's incredible selection of designer
merchandise! We've gotta be a hit!"
The online auction site bills the new Designer Boutique category as "a one-stop shopping
destination for high-end brand name clothing, accessories, footwear, personal care products
and vintage." The online boutique's top 10 list of the most popular designer brands on eBay
includes Prada (2,779 items) and Gucci (3,623 items). Part of Bloch's role will be to guide
users through this overwhelming mass of designer goods to the season's must-haves.
This isn't Bloch's first foray into the world of eBay. Last month he curated the Little
Black Dress Against Breast Cancer charity auction sponsored by Avon on eBay. He used his
Hollywood connections and worked with the cosmetics giant to collect the classic staples
from the likes of Elizabeth Taylor, Brooke Shields, Kim Cattrall and Debra Messing. Bloch's
mother died of breast cancer in 1996.
This month, he is continuing his newfound curating career with another online celebrity
auction for charity. Many of his clients, including Helen Hunt and Natalie Portman, have
donated dresses that are currently on the block as part of the "Gowns for Glory" auction on
BridesMade.com. All proceeds are going to victims of the September 11 tragedy.
