NEW YORK, Oct 20, 2001/ --- Just in case you thought the Spring 2002 collection was the only
fresh and floral creation coming out of Celine, today the 56-year-old fashion house introduced
its self-titled second fragrance at Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, and Celine boutiques
nationwide.
Their first fragrance, Magic, was introduced in 1996 and is sold only in Europe and Asia.
Inter Parfums, which signed a 10-year lease with Celine last year, created the woody female
and male scents, borrowing heavily from the images that Michael Kors, the label's designer
since 1997, has established.
Thierry de Baschmakoff who designed the graphic silver bottles
was inspired by Kors' line of Celine leather cut-out accessories. Highly graphic and sleek,
the bottles and packaging go hand in hand with the urban luxury that Celine represents.
Coincidentally, this fall has also seen the launch of Michael Kors' new male fragrance,
Michael, begging the question: Which scent is Kors himself going to wear? Already busy
sketching his Fall 2002 collections, Kors was unable to answer, and Celine reps could
only claim, with a shrug, that they had no idea.
Undoubtedly, though, Celine will capture the olfactory favor of at least some of the label's
loyal celebrity clients - a long list that includes Rene Russo, Gwyneth Paltrow and Sharon
Stone.
