Me & Ro Design Jewels for Alber Elbaz
By: Jenny Bailly
NEW YORK, Feb 26, 2002/ --- Jewelers Me & Ro have teamed up with Alber Elbaz to create a
special edition collection for the designer's first show for the House of Lanvin at Le Petit
Palais.
Elbaz decided to feature an exclusive line of jewelry in the March 10 show after experiencing
an inspirational "coup de foudre," or flash of lightening, explains a French spokeswoman.
So the former ready-to-wear designer for Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche and Guy Laroche
approached his old friend Michele Quan, one half of the Me & Ro design team, to make this
lightening bolt come to life.
The result is a collection of modern matte gold hammered earrings, bangle bracelets and
rings that Quan and partner Robin Renzi designed to complement Elbaz's creations for fall 2002.
Lanvin's spokeswoman describes the pieces as "ethnic as well as refined" - an apt portrayal
of the Me & Ro style, which often reflects ancient symbolism in its designs and favors a
handcrafted look.
Select pieces from the special edition collection will be shipped to Me & Ro's stores
in New York and Miami for fall.
There is also some talk that the jewelry could be sold at the Lanvin store in the Place
Vendome when its renovation is complete.
