New Designers Thrive at New York Fashion Week
New York Fashion Week Spring 2004
NEW YORK, Sep 3, 2003/FW/ --- New York continues to be the mecca for young designers who want to break
into the fashion business.
GEN ART, a national non-profit organization dedicated to showcasing emerging visual artists,
fashion designers, and filmmakers is showcasing 12 new designers this season.
The 9th Annual Fresh Faces in Fashion which will be held on Friday, September 12 at the Manhattan
Center Grand Ballroom (211 W 34th Street)will feature womenswear designs of Alistair Carr,
Annelore, Gayle met Glenn, Lars Andersson, Lauren Felton and Tom Scott.
Menswear designers Duckie Brown and Romain Kapadia will also show their collection
on the runway.
Accessories by Agent Anonym, Erva, Kristen Lee and Thorn will also be shown, both on
the runway and during the Accessories pre-reception show at 6:00PM, an hour before the
runway show commences.
Clothing designer Ashaka Givens and jewelry designer Lorraine West are holding a combined
champagne reception on Monday, September 15 at the Oda Mae Lounge (111 W. 38th Street)
between 3-7 PM.
Givens and West together have dressed a number of style maven in the music and entertainment
industry which includes Annabella Sciorra, Andre3000 from Outkast, Talib Kweli, Common,
The Roots and Erykah Badu.
Givens collection is entitled 'Rah Goddess,' which captures the bohemian spirit and the
essence of woman as a desirable self-actualized and self-sufficient being.
West's theme is Abyss, which also reflects the rare essence of the human spirit.
Levon, who trained under Patrick Robinson in New York and Boudicca in London is debuting
on the New York runways on September 17 at West Village's 11 Weehawken St.
(between Christophe and W. 10th St.)
For Spring, Levon envisions a world inhabited by violent butterflies. "Smother Nature," the
title of his collection, reminds the viewing public that if we continue ignoring
the welfare of our planet, the results will be deadly.
