The Sophisticated and Elegant Urbanite
Where will we be without the heartthrobs, who make women heads turn.
The elegant sophistication of Italian tailoring is omnipresent in all the shows.
Standouts include Gianfranco Ferre's 'distinct balanced elegance that is traditional
but also characterised by eccentric modernity.'
And there is the dashing Valentino man, in his 'double breasted blazers, navy and white
elegance of the stylish yatchsman who hasn't lost control of his sensuality.'
The Sports Jersey
Here in the U.S., we know that 'We like Mike,' proven with the multi-million dollar
endorsement deals of Michael Jordan.
Sports is a big part of the American culture, and Giorgio Armani understands that.
So, in his 3-in-one-show, which featured the Giorgio Armani, Emporio Armani and Armani Jeans labels,
the sports jersey is very visible in the collection.
In Conclusion
Casual is in, and though the tuxedos and formals will never go away, and still amply
represented in the collections, the 'casual, sporty look' is the name of the game.
Though new grounds on fashion were broken by Gianfranco Ferre, Giorgio Armani, Tom Ford of
Gucci and Fendi, there is a return to the basics in the collections shown in Milan, even
by the aforementioned fashion houses.
No one played it safe though. It was more of 'giving a new take' on a standard, making it
more exciting and giving it a feel of the new.
Maybe it was because the collections were designed when the future did not look so bright.
Yet in hindsight, it was also the reason why the designers showed cutting edge designs.
Then it is true... 'Necessity is the mother of invention.' With the need to perk up sagging
menswear sales, the designers gave their best, and the result was just amazing.
