Karl Lagerfeld Planning Paris Bar, Expects to Tend

PARIS, Jul 6, 2002/ --- Get ready for the latest career move from fashion's greatest eclectic --
Karl Lagerfeld is considering opening a bar.
"I'm not exactly tender, but I can be a bar tender," quipped Lagerfeld backstage after the
Christian Dior men's catwalk show in Paris Monday.
The bar would be located in an upcoming Left Bank restaurant the designer is plotting, located
around the corner from his Lagerfeld Gallery on Rue de Seine.
However, Karl and his doctor-cum-dietician Jean-Claude Houdret still have to work out what
exactly to serve to drinkers.
"Definitely not anything macrobiotic. That's disastrous for the skin. Gives you pimples. Ugh!"
stressed Lagerfeld, who broke into the bar-keeping profession by mixing cocktails with Hedi
Slimane and Stephen Gan at their post-CFDA Awards fete in New York's Chinatown in June.
So does the designer expect to serve health drinks?
"Oh no. I don't want the place crowded with health freaks. The only thing more boring than
sickness is fitness," said the man who underwent the most famous diet in fashion history.
Pulling back his Hedi Slimane jacket to show off his wasp-like waist, Karl bragged, "I'm down
to 44 centimeters. But losing 60 kilos is enough. Nor do I expect everyone to copy me."
Sucking in his cheeks operatically, he laughed, "not everyone can look like a lemon like me."
