LONDON, Jan 22, 2002/ --- Fifty-seven designers have been accepted by the British Fashion
Council to show their Autumn/Winter 2002 collections on the official schedule of London
Fashion Week, sponsored by VS Sassoon, which will take place from February 17 to 21.
There are four new additions to the schedule: Michelle Lowe Holder, Tata Naka, Rafael Lopez
and Hardy Amies have all been accepted by the British Fashion Council to show at the collections.
Hardy Amies will be showing ready-to-wear for the first time in the 56-year history of
the house.
Michelle Lowe Holder and the Georgian sister partnership, Tata Naka, are able to show through
the generosity of the Top Shop New Generation scheme, which financially supports new designers.
Brazilian Lopez, who has previously shown off schedule, to great acclaim, told FWD, "I am
really excited to be showing on schedule for the first time in London."
This season the West Lawn Tent, outside the Natural History Museum in South Kensington,
remains as the larger official British Fashion Council venue, next door to the Designer's
Exhibition tent.
However, the council has replaced the smaller Sloane Terrace venue with The Porchester Hall
in Bayswater. The venue is approximately 15 minutes by car from the West Lawn Tent.
Simon Ward of the British Fashion Council explained to FWD why there has been a change of
venue: "Sloane Terrace has been very successful with the designers, who liked both the space,
and the facilities available to them. However, the building is currently being redeveloped
for the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and, as such, is therefore unavailable to us this season."
He continued, "The Porchester Hall will provide a traditional catwalk, rather than the
columned walk-through space at Sloane Terrace.
There will be slightly more room for the audience, although capacity remains the same at 300."
The entire schedule can be found at www.londonfashionweek.co.uk.
