NEW YORK, Dec 5, 2002/ FW/ -- This holiday season thousands of out-of-towners are on their way to the Big
Apple for shopping, shows and sightseeing. Whether a New Yorker or just a
visitor, make sure to hail a cab -- not only will your trip be cozier but you'll
be giving to a worthwhile charity at the same time!
400 yellow taxis have undergone a "fleece-lift" for charity. Festive
Fleece-lined backseats, courtesy of Old Navy, are providing cozy rides. The cabs
also smell sweeter, equipped with ornamental air fresheners.
It's part of the company's holiday charity program, donating warm fleece and
outerwear for every fare in a fleece-lined cab to support the annual NY Cares
Coat Drive.
The fleet of warm and fuzzy taxis got a star-studded send-off at an event on
December 3, as actor Kevin Bacon, Ivana Trump, and some of the American Idol
Finalists, who appear in the Old Navy commercials, helped send passengers on
their way. Some lucky taxi riders were in for another surprise as celebrities
hopped in the cabs to spread some holiday cheer by handing out gift
certificates.
This charity program runs from December 3rd through December 17th. On your
next trip to NYC, don't forget to hail a cab for a ride that will warm your seat
and your heart.
