Christian Lacroix to Launch Lingerie Line
By Mari Davis and Timothy Hagy
PARIS, Apr 21, 2003/ FW/ --- From wedding gowns to jeans, from haute couture to ready-to-wear,
Christian Lacroix's fans have a lot to choose from. Young adults rave about his diffusion
line, 'Bazar' and we welcomed him to our homes by buying his Porcelaine services, plates,
breakfast cups, and tidy trays. Next year, it will be time to welcome Christian Lacroix in our
bedrooms.
Last week, the House of Lacroix and S.I.L. (Société Internationale de Lingerie) announced
the signing of a 5 year licensing agreement with Chrisitian Lacroix for the launch of a
new line of feminine lingerie.
The first collection of Christian Lacroix Lingerie is scheduled to become
available during the summer of 2004.
Considered one of the brightest talents in the Paris fashion circle, Christian Lacroix
trained under Patou who taught him the intricacies of Haute Couture.
It was during Patou's last collection that they decided to launch
Christian Lacroix Haute Couture. And in July 1987, the designer showed his first Couture
Collection under his own name.
Two decades later, Christian Lacroix proved to be one of the most prolific fashion
minds in the City of Lights. The Christian Lacroix fashion line has expanded from
Haute Couture to wedding gowns, ready-to-wear, accessories, home, jeans and the diffusion
line Bazar.
He has also designed theater costumes for Shéhérazade, Bérénice, La gaieté parisienne,
Carmen and Les enfants du paradis.
Last year, he was awarded a contract to create new uniforms for the employees of Air France,
and currently in strong competition to redesign the interior of France's high speed
trains, the TGV.
Lacroix also designs four ready-to-wear collections a year - two for his eponymous line (Spring and Fall)
and two for Pucci, which he has revitalized since he became the Head Designer of the Milan fashion
house last year.
His recent couture and ready-to-wear collections have received universal acclaim from the
world's fashion press, while his Fashion House has seen a black balance sheet for the first
time since its founding in 1987.
