JLo Stars In Louis Vuitton's Fall 2003 Ad Campaign
By: Mari Davis
PARIS, Apr 21, 2003/ FW/ --- Last week, Paris was abuzz with another Marc Jacobs coup -
Jennifer Lopez is the new poster girl for Louis Vuitton's Fall 2003 ad campaign.
In his search for the 'face' to represent the fall collection for Louis Vuitton,
Marc Jacobs said that he was looking for "a contemporary icon representing the
values of Louis Vuitton".
The collection which was shown in Paris last March has been described as 'lady-like chic'
by the fashion press. With long gloves worn over almost everything, the clothes and
accessories shown subtly suggested glamor and wealth.
Selecting Jennifer Lopez to star in the Louis Vuitton Fall 2003 campaign is a stroke of
genius. Marc Jacobs chose one of the most bankable stars of both Hollywood and the music
industry.
Jennifer Lopez's face is 'pre-sold' in terms of recognition. With the box office success
of her latest movie, 'Maid In Manhattan' and the release of her new album 'This Is Me',
Jennifer Lopez is hot property this summer and fall.
Choosing Jennifer Lopez will also expand Louis Vuitton's clientele to include the hip hop
crowd which is JLo's fan base.
In turn, you can expect an expansion of Louis Vuitton's market share in the luxury goods sector.
Jennifer Lopez is not a new face to the fashionistas also. A regular front row habitue at
Versace, JLo has become a fashion icon in her own right. She also designs her
own line of clothing under the label JLo.
In short, Marc Jacobs chose the perfect poster girl in Jennifer Lopez - someone who is
familiar to Louis Vuitton's existing clientele, and with a big potential of getting
new Louis Vuitton aficionados from JLo's young fan base.
The ad campaign was created by Marc Jacobs, Artistic Director of the label and photographed
by Mert Atlas and Marcus Pigott. The campaign will hit stores by August 2003.
