A New Project for Karl Lagerfeld
By Timothy Hagy
Feb 11, 2003/ FW/ --- The indefatigable Karl Lagerfeld has announced plans for yet another project. In addition to designing collections for Chanel, Lagerfeld Galleries, Fedi, and Diesel Jeans, the legendary designer is now entering into collaboration with Wolford.
Wolford, a Viennese based purveyor known largely for swimwear, hosiery and lingerie, is on the cutting edge of technical development, while Lagerfeld Gallery is on the cutting edge of creativity.
2003 will mark the partnership of their complementary talents with the release of a 22-piece collection. Karl Lagerfeld will be Artistic Director, from the very fist sketches to the final packaging designs. A preview will be presented at the Lagerfeld Gallery runway show during Paris Ready-to-Wear fashion week in March.
The collection will be distributed through Wolford and Lagerfeld Gallery International retail networks.
While the preview will have to wait until March, what is already known is that there seems to be no end to Karl Lagerfeld's artistic skills.
Backstage at the Dior Homme show in January, he was sporting a new bracelet. Who knows? Maybe Cartier will be next to tap into Mr. Lagerfeld's creative talent with a jewelry line.
