Wolford and Westwood Branch Out
By Karl Treacy
Jan 28, 2003/ FWD/ --- After collaborating with Wolford last season on a six-piece hosiery collection, British designer Vivienne Westwood is extending her output for the German label to outerwear for spring.
Back again come the nubbly argyles, but instead of just covering the leg, they now come as a patchwork-effect polo shirt dress or as a body suit with white collar and red placket.
The collection follows three themes: Patchwork, as mentioned, Stitches, which gives the effect of hand-stitching, and Fil Coupé, literally "cut thread," which manifests itself as striated interwoven yarns raking across a nude base.
In the latter category comes a slinky cardigan or a scoop-neck shirt whose powder or platinum colors are woven through with gold and black treads. Stitches, a smaller category, features a vest top with a winding decorative, sutured seam or a T-shirt whose heart motif is embellished with basting stitches.
The new collection will be available in Wolford stores, as well as Vivienne Westwood boutiques and department stores.
