Alberta Ferretti DALLAS, Aug 24, 2006/ FW/ --- In fashion, most collections are created for the glamour girl, the ladies who lunch and the social set. But, what about the ladies who launch? For Fall 2006, Alberta Ferretti chose to dress the women whose pioneering spirits define them.

The U.S. had gained a lot of ground for women’s rights since 1920 when women won the right to vote. In less than a hundred years since the 19th Amendment was passed, women have shaped our society more than just raising our children.

When Forbes Magazine released its list of the 100 Most Powerful Women in 2005, the top 10 is composed of high government officials, heads of states, CEOs of companies and a philanthropist.

Still, this list is a minute number simply because half of the world’s population are women. Millions of women out there, who break new grounds in whatever industry or occupation they hold, are not on that list.

But, their strength should not be underestimated, because the 100 women in the Forbes list were obscure names at one point in time, especially when they were very young and just beginning in their careers.

And these are the women that Alberta Ferretti wants to reach with her Fall 2006 collection. Women who forge ahead and take chances, the warrior princesses of our times whose armors are beautiful clothes and luxurious fur coats.

For Fall 2006, Alberta Ferretti proposes knee-length fur coats, empire waist fur jackets, and kimono-inspired quilted day coats trimmed with fur at the collar for the women who launch to make a bold statement the moment they arrive.

Or, if they choose not to wear fur, floor length trench coats with a tiny bow belt or traveling capes that are cropped at the waist or reach just below the thigh line. Volume is controlled as if saying ‘I am in control of my destiny.”

And when she takes off her coat to reveal a dress suit that is full of texture very much unlike the tailored suit dresses usually seen. The skirt is sheered lightly while the top is decorated with inverted seams at the bodice, ending at the waist to give way to a lightly sheered peplum.

If she chose to wear trousers, the pants are straight cut and just loose enough to define the figure and not show off all the curves but just give a hint of it. The silhouette of the top is simple – just a round neck collar. But, it’s the details that count like the tiny fabric belt just below the waist.
