Philosophy: Perfectly Put-Together

MILAN, Mar 3, 2002/ FWD/ --- Philosophy is the sort of line that brings to mind the phrase,
"It's so European."
By that I mean it's chic, full of style, flattering to wear and very well put together.
The fall-winter 2002 catwalk show of Philosophy here Friday night was certainly not
revolutionary, but nonetheless crammed full of commercial winners.
It testified to the savvy of its designer Alberta Ferretti, the guiding light behind the
powerful Italian fashion group Aeffe.
That said, this collection was one of hits and misses, albeit mostly the former.
However, it began with a clear miss - a flared pinstripe jacket over a mini skirt that made
poor Tascha Tillberg look a little chunky, something she most assuredly is not.
But after this small glitch, it was mostly pretty impressive - romantic satin shirts with
lace filigree cuffs, superb blood-red or brown coats in what looked like pony, and romantic
chiffon dresses.
Alberta's big idea this season was the great aged leather jackets with embroidered leaf and
flower patterns, a clever homage to Italian technology and taste.
These Philosophical gals also know how to punch up their look - sashaying out in flowery
silk minis, worn leather jackets, blue stockings and riding boots.
They're tough yet tender.
Just enough to impress a date, and not to upset a boss.
