MILAN, Oct 2, 2002/ FWD/ --- Alberta Ferretti´s soft and feminine side got a slight
country twist in the collection she staged for her secondary Philosophy line.
Yes there were plenty of clothes inspired by the country and life on the range.
But this was no ordinary farm girl.
Much more fresh and sexy, rather than drab and functional, the Philosophy girl was better
prepared for a roll in the hay, rather than raking hay.
Overalls, that quintessential farmer dud, played a big role in this collection.
The style was at times represented in its literal rendition, with bright cotton colors
or the traditional pinstripe.
But it had its best moment when Philosophy explored its unique take on the item.
In unexpected fabrics, such as satin, the overalls looked fresh and new.
But when the pieces were deconstructed, leaving little of the actual overall except maybe
the rivets and the buckles, things got interesting.
Long satin dresses or skirts with hints of worker detail all harked back to slow days on the
farm, but were snappy enough for a city girl wanting a new look.
Ferretti played with the long silhouette, morphing her overalls moment into sexy maxi skirts
that hugged the body in all the right places.
These were paired with soft long sleeved blouses.
Colors like mandarin and cranberry were bright and fresh, and made this part of the collection
by far the most striking.
And what´s a country girl without a peasant blouse?
Not much, according to Philosophy.
The super trendy piece, now unfortunately nearly ubiquitous, continued to receive major
attention on the Philosophy runway.
Ferretti made a better move on top with her studded flower Ts and tops -- in line with the
trend factor, but not at all tired.
