MILAN, Mar 6, 2003/ FWD/ --- Alessandro Dell’Acqua is never one to stray far from the bedroom.
His lingerie-inspired designs have always had the flirtiness of an innocent roll between
the sheets.
The collections look great when there’s a counterbalance between the piles of chiffon and
ruffles with something a bit edgier.
That’s what happened this season, when Dell’Acqua’s lady rummaged through the depths of her
closet, retrieving the tight leggings and stilettos that carried her through the ‘80s-- the
perfect match for her light-as-air Dell’Acqua staples.
The combo worked mostly because Dell’Acqua wisely chose to keep the whole operation simple.
There were no fussy chiffon numbers, nor heavy-handed lingerie looks. Instead, basic sheer
boxy dresses danced happily over black or white leggings.
Those leggings, which are everywhere on the Milan runways, came ribbed, or slouched, or
with buttons running along the ankle and tucked right down into pin needle four-inch heels.
Things were brief, as in sexy sheer or satin skirts which barely grazed the thigh, or
short coats that served as dresses.
All this lightness was best cut into with stiff, structured black jackets, or
sweatshirt-style capes that flapped around.
With these barely-there ensembles, the Dell’Acqua woman might have a dilemma for fall
coverage.
Aside from leggings or skin tight pants, which don’t look great on anyone but models,
there were only droopy-crotch pants in satin to cover her skinny little legs.
And who really wants a droopy crotch on their big night out?
What Dell’Acqua’s women will want for an evening splash is something eye catching,
like the deep V, chiffon dress, with cut out arms that waved with light ostrich feathers.
Or a tucked rose chiffon blouse, trimmed with a sparkling edge, minus the white full-length
body suit.
The only task now will be to find a really warm coat.
