Alessandro Dell'Acqua Alessandro Dell'Acqua MILAN, Feb 22, 2007/ FW/ --- Strength, invulnerability, sensuality and class, a rainbow of emotions and messages. This season one message is clear, woman is strong. Through his clothes, Alessandro Dell'Acqua told a story of a woman who is a modern day warrior.

The collection was a beautiful mix of strength and femininity. Playing with the fabrics and textures, Alessandro Dell'Acqua was able to transform pieces from one thing to an absolute other.

Like bustier's done in knit forms that became soft sensual tops. Knits in general changed and took on a stronger meaning much like the transformation of the female.

The female, who in history was thought to be soft and fragile, is much like the yarn in the collection. Knits have been used for ages and their normal function is to be soft and drapery.

Through time knits have been used repeatedly for different typical styles and uses. This season though is about looking beyond, so knits are designed into bolder pieces that help defend their warmth and strength.

The woman too is looked at and dressed bolder. Dell’Aqua did a lot of pieces based on armor to metaphor the new woman’s power. Dresses had rectangular jewels tiled down the front to look like armor.

Shoulder pieces with sparkling hoods resembled chainmail from the middle ages and modern bullet-proof vests inspired strapping and embellishments.

Bustier like belts took on not only military styles but also played reference to another type of strong woman, the dominatrix with her taste for bondage. Shoe also followed this trend with high heels and patent leather. The dominatrix is another type of warrior, fighter and survivor.

Allesandro dell’Aqua’s collection worked because he was only “inspired” by these notions. In the end he put in his own aesthetic and really put together a strong collection.

The pieces were beautiful and well thought out and if they make a woman feel as empowered as they make her look she might just be, bullet proof!
