PARIS, Oct 9, 2002/ FWD/ --- As ever, Belgian designer Ann Demeulemeester opened her
spring/summer 2003 collection with a model that looked remarkably like rock rebel Patti
Smith, confirming that she is still the designer's favorite muse.
Unfortunately, the collection looked remarkably like her collections of past.
Not to say that Demeulemeester didn't offer some strong looks.
Entirely black, white and silver, the collection was chock full of her signature straps and
buckles.
There was nothing sweet to speak of, metal accessories abounded and T-shirts read "wilder,"
"life" and "sin."
The silver leather looks were standouts, although the low-crotched balloon pants, fitted at
the calf, were nothing to write home about.
A white updated-safari jacket paired with a tight sleek skirt made for a winning combination
though. Other pants were low-slung and cool as always, but the problem with the collection
was exactly that-as always.
Despite her lack of innovation, though, Demeulemeester followers will be pleased, as the
designer stayed true to her hard-core rebel heart with a hard-core Ann Demeulemeester
collection.
