PARIS, Mar 7, 2007/ FW/ --- A master deconstructionist and legendary in cutting a great pair of pants, Ann Demeulemeester was part of the group of young designers who emerged from Belgium during the 1980s.

Two decades later, the Belgian-born designer dominates with her wearable cutting edge fashion that continues to fascinate a new crop of fans every season.

Staying true to her design philosophy that began during the 1980s and crystallized during the 1990s, the Antwerp-trained Demeulemeester is a true modernist, who looks towards the future without looking sci-fi.

Take her Fall 2007 menswear collection unveiled last January here in Paris. A symphony in black and white, Demeulemeester layered the slim silhouettes with oversized tunics, jackets and coats, bulking up the male form, making him macho without the 1980s muscular body.

And though the silhouettes were definitely slim, the models did not like shrimps! They look like men!

For Ann Demeulemeester fans, the versatility of creations is expected, because that is one of the Belgian designers strengths. She has the ability to create garments that ‘adjusts’ to the figure of the wearer.

In a menswear season wherein one of the most important trends is that, ‘men are men,’ Ann Demeulemeester did not actually follow the trend. She was actually in the spearhead. During her years in fashion, she had always separated men from the boys.
