Ashley Paige: In The Swim of Things

LOS ANGELES, Nov 2, 2003/ FW/ --- New York Fashion Week had Rosa Cha for an all-swimwear show. Mercedes Benz Shows LA had Ashley Paige for drop dead gorgeous girls in bikinis.
Tommy Lee (photo at left) who was covering the show for the Sharon Osbourne Show sat front row and was literally
mesmerized and impressed enough so that as each model went by, he was heard and seen saying, “Nice” and “Wow.”
And in his inimitable Tommy Lee style, he started dropping dollar bills on the floor just before all the models came for their final walk.
A frantic photographer swiftly swept them away, probably scared that one of the models might trip on them, or not to ruin the final shots.
And I don’t blame him, because it was a beautiful show. Anything less than a perfect shot is unacceptable.
Ashley Paige told 7th on Sixth that “spring is a collaboration of synergy for fashion and the environment.”
Playing on that remark, the venue became a rainforest for the show, with trees at the entrance and leaves projected on the wall. Her invitation was a beautiful shot of the ocean, with the morning mist still on the water.

And though I believe that this was not planned as a political statement, Ashley Paige gently reminded the audience of the importance of the trees and forest. With the California forest fires raging during Los Angeles fashion week, it became a very strong statement.
Back to fashion --- Ashley Paige sent scantily clad models in swimsuits and bikinis done in macramé, knits and crochet. Leaf and mushroom prints were also very prominent.
She then threw in some wraps, jersey dresses, trousers and Capri pants to be worn over the swimsuits.
It did not have the energy of the Rosa Cha show in New York, but it can definitely give Amir Slama a run for his money.
Ashley Paige designs for “the fashion conscious woman who searches for something unique and enjoy standing out in the crowd.”
Her Spring 2004 collection definitely did just that. Anyone who wears Ashley Paige swimsuit come spring will surely be the center of attention whether she is in Malibu or Honolulu.
