William Garrett for Blue Khaki
By: Lael Ward-Shapiro
NEW YORK, Sep 13, 2003/ FW/ --- Blue Khaki by William Garrett is an extremely varied
collection of menswear. The clothing presented
brought to mind college campuses, beaches and everyday
living across the US. It was the clothing of Every
Man.
Dark worn denim jeans appeared comfortable paired with
sweaters or cotton shirts. And the sweaters
themselves ranged from a trendy GQ appearance to the
ultra casual coffee house lounge-wear.
Also popular
and appearing on both sweaters and shirts were
vertical stripes that ran down both the front and
back. The single stripe down the front and double
stripe down the back were a little overdone, but were
tasteful and actually gave many outfits an "upscale"
casual feel.
While the collection contained many attractive
two-button suits, they all succeeded in impressing the
casual professional rather than the business
professional. The variety was apparent even in the
various styles of suits. A brown cotton Seersucker
two-button suit was smoothly appealing to all
generations while a navy wool pinstripe suit,
generally created for the older man, was youthful.
The jackets in the Blue Khaki line were wonderful.
The trench coats in particular were designed in such a
way as to appeal to all ages. Cotton, denim and suede
trench coats were each attractive but created for
diverse tastes.
Richard Buckley, of Vogue Homme magazine
sat front row at the showing. When he was asked
about his thoughts on the collection he replied that
while it was still a little early in the season, he
could see a commercial appeal to the clothing.
