MILAN, Feb 22, 2006/ FW/ --- In music, counterpoints make it dramatic, the lows and the highs combined to create a symphony. Anna Molinari, inspired by Salvador Dali created a collection of harmonically matching opposites, creating a beautiful symphony for the eyes fixed on opulence and modern elegance.
Fur and gold, two symbols of luxury, that’s what Anna Molinari opened the show with – a gold mini dress cinched at the waist by a belt wrapped in knee-length coat with a fur collar and cuffs.
It’s a play on textures. Leather and cashmere, leather and velvet, leather and chiffon came together as one. Knits and furs were mixed in jackets and coats. The reversible raw-cut sheepskin jackets and soft capes featured shearling on one side while on the other, quilted leather.
It’s a play on volume as ruche mini dresses curved the waist and hips, as knits were crocheted in layers of ruffles, as fur capes became latticework and velvet was filled down feather with embroidery as an adornment.
The silhouette is surprisingly slim, a testament to Anna Molinari’s superb tailoring techniques. Pants were relaxed fitting, helped with the pleats in front. The multiple variants of the jacket were snug and the shoulders rounded.
Like Salvador Dali, the influences are eclectic, the common thread of the collection are the counterpoints and contrasts.
It’s mostly eveningwear, with just a sprinkling of daywear. The finale gowns raised eyebrows in a good way, receiving applause from the audience as the models came out.
But, how can one really resist leather and chiffon, with the occasional embroidery. Thigh high boots shod forest nymphs giving it a touch of bondage. Innocence with sexuality just brimming on the surface; now, that’s what you call a matched set!
