Burberry Prorsum: Tradition Rules In the New World

MILAN, Jan 12, 2004/ FW/ --- Reminiscent of the English gentleman, the romantic 1930’s was the inspiration this season for Christopher Bailey as he presented the Burberry Prorsum autumn winter men’s 2004 collection yesterday in Milan.

Tradition has in fact never disappeared, though it has at times been swept under the carpet.

The current generation still has far off grandfathers telling them that it is always important to appear perfectly composed, and not to forget where they come from, reminding them that a real man never cries in public and has a wardrobe to match.

He dresses in the perfect lightweight mackintosh which at times has been shortened to the tactical super hero mini cape with either slim pants accentuating the frame or baggy striped pyjama pants with elastic waist for ultra comfort.

Suave sportsman, cricket vests and sweaters are worn within city limits and quilted hunting jackets are accessorized with flat caps and maxi bags making the English country side stylish and the new hotspot for the customary young man who has a college scarf tied around his neck.

Dressing gown chic is homely and fit with the tone of the show perfectly. After all, who has not at least once secretly dreamed of being able to go to the office in their pyjamas?

A chilly palette to match a winter collection, at times splashes of brighter blues and greens, but predominantly olive, chocolate, beige and grey.

Moving away from London street style, Bailey managed to give us a splendid collection full of finely crafted garments in an elevated display of British sport culture and fondness.
