Burberry Prorsum Menswear Spring 2008: Definitely Not Your Father’s Burberry

MILAN, Jun 23, 2007/ FW/ --- If someone tells you that menswear is boring, then tell that person to check out Christopher Bailey’s Spring / Summer 2008 Burberry Prorsum collection, because the British designer just upped the ante on men’s dressing.
Sending a COLORFUL kaleidoscope of men’s clothing that began with a fire engine red trench coat followed by a snug fitting olive green light sweater that was zipped in the front, the Burberry Prorsum gent is a peacock who is proud to show his true colors, no pun intended.
Trousers are slim, but given a low crotch, thus making them look slouchy. Bailey did not propose any shorts though. He expects the Burberry Prorsum gent to wear trousers even while he is on the deck of a yacht, thus the very casual treatment of trousers.
But, don’t think for a moment that Bailey was just thinking of days at the beach or just hanging out. He also sent out some rock & roll inspired eveningwear like the golden trench and golden cable knit sweater.
All right, perhaps the more conservative denizens of the U.S. Midwest might not wear this. But, we are talking about the urban male; hence, this collection really works. And, though this might be reaching, the younger crowd, especially those raised with Nintendo and Playstation, and now, X-Box, would really find their heroes.
Because, sometimes, the models look like they came out of a video game, in a very positive sense. After all, the very popular Final Fantasy video game series is always about a knight and a princess trying to save their kingdom.
If you find this statement incongruent with what you know about video games, then try playing Final Fantasy XII. There is really a rock & roll gent there, who by the way has a British accent. In fact, most of the characters have a British accent.
Hmm… just got me thinking. Does Christopher Bailey own a Playstation and got inspired by this particular video game?
