Paris Menswear Show Spring 2003

PARIS, Jul 2, 2002/ FW/ --- Dirk Schönberger chose the Australian Embassy in the shadow
of the Eiffel Tower for his most recent Paris show.
White folding chairs were placed along the curving lines of the space, atop a charcoal
gray granite floor.
The guests entered, then waited and waited, and waited some more for a show that was nearly
an hour late starting.
With all due respect, that was due largely to poor scheduling which placed Paul Smith in
the preceding time slot, half a city away.
There has been intense interest in this Belgian designer, and so not surprisingly, a large
crowd turned out to see what it was all about.
When the show finally began, the models emerged from a long tunnel draped in white sheets,
and then walked diagonally across the floor toward the flashing cameras.
They were young, good looking and ultimate professionals when it came to doing their job.
The first part of the show was more classical in looks. And then, it turned more avant-garde with plunging sleeveless, V-necked sweaters molded to the torso, hot black
leather pants, interesting side buttoning shirts worn with a gold belt, and a vest with
the seductive phrase "J'ai peur".
Once the shackles were lifted, the models immediately lost their squeaky clean look, and
came out with oversized false black eyelashes glued to their brow, and their buffed abs
showing.
To finish it off, there was a perfectly stunning evening jacket sewn of beautiful gold
brocade and worn above black trousers.
Mr. Schönberger most definitely has talent, and hopefully, next season, he will be in a better time slot so that his fans will not have to wait long to see his collection.
