PARIS, Jul 4, 2004/ FW/ --- In the midst of rain, cherubs and romanticism, Parisian climate unpredictability did a little more helping rather then hindering as far as atmospheric ideals went for Dirk Schonberger this afternoon as he presented his 2005 summer collection.

And while we are on the subject, climate that is; he has ironically learned to channel the bad weather luck he has. Last season press and buyers sat shivering in the same location under thermal rugs as Schonberger projected surf scenes, today in the middle of summer it is raining and there is not a hint of vitamin D in the vicinity of Paris.

Hints of new romanticism thus worked to a tee in the archways and alfresco corridor setting of Ecole des Beaux Arts. This is the new ‘Karate Kid’ cum trendy new age male, where it is ok to be in touch with ones emotions.

Wrap around tops and jackets are reminiscent of fencing and martial arts with ribbing emphasis on hems and seams, breastplates that lace effeminately at the back and pants that are loose with often an extra fabric piece crossing over at the front.

Schonberger men are the new Parisian metrosexuals, that carry beat boxes as the ultimate accessory complete with leather case, taking the idea of private fashion show to the street masses, their music sings from their portable stereos and their audience is anyone and everyone.

V-neck tops, single button tailored long jackets, butterflies, soft colours and bright highlights of fluorescent greens and yellows are this new romantics ideal mix. Slight transparency, asymmetry and hippy chic all play a role in a collection that offers delicate decisions.

Whether it is as a simple polo shirt or Thai fish pants, Dirk Schonberger allows the idea of fashion innovation to take place in even the slightest of ways, hence providing his man a simple but important choice in individualism in his wardrobe.
