PARIS, Oct 9, 2003/ --- "There's an idea of inner happiness," Giambattista Valli told reporters backstage, his hair slicked like a Roman prince. "It's a happiness that's almost mystical, a sensation of colors and fabrics."
To make his point, the young designer sent sorbet colors of georgette crêpe wafting down the runway.
And nodding on the flower power, which have hit Paris by storm this season, Valli also sent flowers to the audience - roses and orchids applied to sheer tops.
It was hard to read the reaction of the front row denizens that include Anna Wintour, Suzy Menkes and Bill Cunningham of the New York Times.
The spotlights were bright and the music blaring. The front row, together with the rest of over 1000 attendees at the Carreau du Temple were concentrated on the parade of cocktail dresses, swimsuits and off-the shoulder tops that paraded on the runway.
The collection was soft and feminine. Giambattista Valli, like most of the designers this season in Paris embraced the woman once again.
Gone is the androgyny. It’s back to shapes and curves. And once again, the woman has reigned on the runway.
