MILAN, Feb 22, 2007/ FW/ --- Matthew Williamson developed four new prints for Emilio Pucci. Inspired by ‘Ceramiche’, a print design from the 1950s and worn by Marilyn Monroe, the British designer took a new direction and created ‘Duomo’, ‘Quaadratini’, ‘Occhi’ and ‘Ashberry.’

In a fast-paced high-energy show, Matthew Williamson proved once again that he is a perfect fit for Pucci. A great colorist himself, British designer sent out felted wool tunic dresses, short skirts and A-line cape coats in bold tones of pumpkin, tangerine, raspberry, plum, wine and pomegranate.

And his big surprise this season – lots of new hardware, wherein he encrusted hems and necklines with gold metal. This was also seen in bangles and necklaces, even as part of a mutton sleeve, wherein the upper arm was given gold squares to give sheer to the sleeves.

The new Pucci prints developed by Williamson were shown in traditional form (printing it directly on the fabric) and on knits wherein they were woven with the new motifs. Still, the most delightful of all was the 3-D rendition of the designs, wherein metals and precious stones were encrusted on the fabric to reproduce the new prints!

With this novel way of showing off the prints, Williamson struck gold as the audience just loved this new treatment.

And for those interested, the new Pucci prints are: ‘Duomo’ – a painterly mélange of misshapen cubes, sloping quadrilaterals and circles; ‘Quadratini’ is a series of rectangles and squares, while ‘Occhi’ is an oversized network of squares and triangles. ‘Ashberry’ is a constellation of outsized polka dots that cascades down long silk and viscose jersey pieces.
