MILAN, Feb 29, 2004/ FW/ – From multi coloured to multi referenced, the eclectic and eccentric fall 2004/05 Etro collection designed by Veronica Etro is layered with art influence and romanticism.
Models walked under spot lights to enhance even more the Etro love for colour, bright lights, bright tights as coloured and patterned stockings become and integral part of the collection. Not only are patterns a must, there is little that is left nonpatterned as Etro layers one upon the other.
Plaid and tweed are cut into romantic looks, soft and feminine for a girl stuck somewhere in the remote 1970’s corner of naïve pleasures and the more aware contemporary of today. Intricate beaded detail on light flowing dresses, sometimes drop waisted, sometimes graphically cut into delicious halter necks and empire lines loosely reminiscent of modern day goddesses, fur finishes and stoles curled around the neck or slung over the torso like a prize ribbon are all treats for next fall.
Dressing gown chic in theatrical after effects as Etro finds inspiration in Russian ballet costume designer Leon Bakst. Flowing smooth and shiny, they are worn loosely on shoulders and matched often with chiffon dresses full of movement.
Jackets are tailored and sit on the hips, dainty and lady like, while skirts are knee length, panelled and A-line or gathered to create volume. Trousers on the other hand are reminiscent of other times, nostalgically buttoned just under the knee and fitting the leg snugly in the softest velvet and wool.
Etro dances somewhere between the exaggerated and individual pieces that are unique and quite stunning, by cutting back the layers and giving the right attention to details it is a collection of involved influences that are conceptual and contagious.
