DALLAS, Sep 3, 2006/ FW/ --- Paisley prints, knee-length dresses, slim-fitting trousers and figure-hugging jumpsuits were reworked for today’s ergonomic shapes. With the late 1960s and early 1970s as an inspiration, Etro created classic look from the fads of that era.
The late 1960s and early 1970s were literally in a cusp of changing fashion. The hippie era was winding down while the disco was just beginning. The free spirit of the 1960s was slowly being mixed into the more formal and cosmopolitan atmosphere of the disco.
Etro took the best of the era, reintroducing the paisley print as a classic while lowering the hemline a few inches. The tent dress was retrofitted for a more controlled volume while the psychedelic prints took a subtle form in sepia tones.
It is an ingenious approach. Etro’s Fall 2006 collection is appealing to the baby boomers who were already around to know about Woodstock, but too young to attend it. It will also be appealing to the younger Gen X and echo boomers because of its ergonomic silhouettes that are modern and classic at the same time.
It is new, yet familiar; it transcends trends because the template was fads that had been adapted and altered. The new shapes just alluded to the fads, giving credence to a time past, yet everything look and feel contemporary, perfect for the cosmo girl of today.
