MILAN Oct 3, 2003/ FW/ ---Dedicated to the Viennese inventor of the monokini,
Rudy Gernreich was one of the first in 1964 to use geometrics to free the female body.
Film snippets from the 60’s and 70’s, Peggy Mofit to Jane Fonda muses of Gernreich were
projected onto a white round screen that opened James Bond style to a show of circle
symbolism in a ‘new free style’ for Exte spring summer 2004.
Movie queens strutted the catwalk dressed in bold colours of the pop art world and graphic
symbols.
Neck accentuating tops with hoods, mini red ottoman body trench, lacing on bodices and
jackets and an entire collection accessorised with Plexiglas bangles, chains, bag handles
and inserts in sandals.
Zips on figure hugging matchstick pants and jodhpurs, mini skirts and maxi blazers with
hoods, clean cuts, prominent checks in contrasting black and white and space like body suits
for upbeat and fun Exte.
Designer Sergio Ciucci didn’t follow current floral trends but ingeniously reworked
perhaps the most frequently used emblem of the computer age, the email @ symbol.
Slinky jumpsuits, ruffles and feminine flowing tails on evening dresses, slight transparency
but never nude, the female silhouette is rather all about ‘see you reveal you not’ for Exte.
