LOS ANGELES, Apr 4, 2003/ FW/ --- When the mailman delivered a 'box' as an invitation
to Frankie B.'s show, it caught my curiosity right away.
And when the box proved to contain a 'hairspray' labeled Frankie B., I knew I had to
attend this show. I wanted to know what the hairspray was all about.
So, last Wednesday, when the lights went out and the first model walked on the runway
with 'big hair' I understood.
Danielle Clarke, the designer behind the label Frankie B.., brought us back to the
1960s and 1970s, when 'big hair' was en vogue.
And with the PA system playing "The Valley Of The Dolls" and "The Look of Love",
there was no question at all on what decade we were in.
To her credit, Clarke did not fall into the MOD trap, which swept both New York
and London runways this season.
She gave the audience her own interpretation of these two decades, presenting an
eclectic collection that should be expected given the time frame reference.
Highlight of the show were the low-slung jeans wherein Frankie B.. is known for.
Bell bottoms, straight-cut, slim fit, and generously cut, Clarke proved why
her jeans have been worn by curvaceous J.Lo to stick-thin Christina Aguilera.
But it was the mini-skirts which caught the attention of the Hilton sisters who sat
front row.
Paris Hilton, who was clad in a bubble-gum-pink Frankie B. flight suit was overheard
saying, "The low-waisted skirts are so hot...Frankie B. makes them perfectly."
