LONDON, Feb 22, 2003/ FWD/ --- BAFTA, or the British Academy of Film and Television Arts,
was a fitting venue for the presentation of Sadie Frost and Jemima French's latest
collection for Frost French.
As befits the label's "luvvie" connections, press were invited to watch a short film by
Simon Aboud starring Liberty Ross, Helena Christensen, Jerry Hall, Leah Woods,
Jasmine Guinness and Siobhan Fahey.
And what an enchanting little film it was.
Set around a circus big top, it was a charming romp all romantic lighting and silly games.
Jerry Hall cut Leah Woods in half.
Liberty Ross played a trapeze artist who wishes she could fly, while Helena Christensen
was the sexily clad ringmaster and narrator.
The clothes were lovely too.
Frost French does great business selling very pretty 1930s-inspired tea-dresses, cute
decorative knickers, cashmere thigh-high socks in pastel shades, and darling bomber
jackets with thick knitted rib at neck and waist and covered with gentle prints.
For fall 2003, they added traditional tweed capelets appliquéd with a dove motif,
matching riding trousers, a white Twiggy-inspired coat with huge black buttons, cropped
cord plus fours and rather fabulous star embroidered footless tights, worn with satin ballet
shoes or 1930s-inspired tango shoes.
The subtext of this show was of course, "Is Sadie OK?" in regard to her recent split
from husband Jude Law.
Kate Moss and Stella McCartney, boyfriend Alasdhair Willis in tow, turned out to support
the actress and mother, who took her bow at the end of the show looking ebullient.
Yet she could not hide her tears as Stella McCartney hugged her post-show.
As soon as the presentation ended Kate Moss took her arm and whisked her out to a waiting car.
Frost and her business partner Jemima French have been friends since they were 14, both
are now 34.
The basis of their label, which has grown by 50 percent every season since it launched
in spring 1999, is that both women would wear everything in it.
"We interact with every piece," says French.
"We have to be able to wear all of it. We love all the tiny decorative details, and make
sure there's something for every aspect of our life."
So as well as beautiful eveningwear, you will also find clothes for walks in the country,
and clothes for lounging at home with the kids.
"Sadie is the most amazingly dignified woman on earth," said her friend.
