Frost French: Stylish Styling Can Only Go So Far
By Michelle Taylor
LONDON, Feb 19, 2004/ FW/ – Sadie Frost and Jemima French have some important fashion friends, such as Kate Moss and other jet setting paparazzi flashing names, but this is no longer enough to keep interest alive and reviews over positive.
So why is it that at all costs when the so called tabloid ‘elite’ get bored they decide to immediately become designers, photographers or artists? And as recently read in a noted English daily, the friends do admit though, that they are way too busy to design full time....
Now don’t get me wrong, the French Frost collection for fall 2004/05 is pretty, but that’s just about where it stops.
With some stylish styling moves such as buttoning little knit cardigans asymmetrically and layering, the duo manages to hold onto their semi cult status, but just how far can ribboned lace up platforms and lace knee-highs go? Galliano did it years ago and much better.
Their rag dolls are dressed in mini skirts, feminine floral and slim, tight-fitting denim jeans. Reminiscent of timely Second World War eastern block country girls, it should all be about simplicity.
The overcoats are lovely however in soft colours as are the ultra mini re-worked bombers with large buttons as closures.
Innocently sexy the feel of a collection that will no doubt continue to sell to the semi masses in department stores.
Sponsorship seems never to be a problem for these two as thousands of pounds from car manufacturer Ford to sanitary towel manufacturer Kotex in recent years have been poured into their efforts to keep the label alive.
