Gianfranco Ferré MILAN, Jul 2, 2004/ FW/ --- While Jackie was dressed in Chanel, JFK could have been wearing Gianfranco Ferre and his Secret Service men definitely were. Summer 2005 is hyper modern but based somewhere in the 1960’s.

As Vietnam was beginning and Presidents were being assassinated, men wore tailored suits and thin square end ties, had black rimmed glasses and pointed lace up shoes.

Opening with an entourage of grey suited officials Ferre set the scene for a tight knit collection, following a single concept from beginning to end. Trousers slightly taper at the ankle and finished off with a neat belt and F buckle.

The big comeback in menswear is the cardigan either popped on top of a vintage style shirt or buttoned up and worn with a lilac tie, collars are small and diminished in their importance before moving onto three button jackets that have lapels and edges piped in contrasting evidence.

The summer Ferre man appreciates as always class and elegance as he moves gracefully from a Clark Kent beige trench and jeans, greys, navy blues and soft earth neutrals to seemingly reversible jackets in bright reds and oriental oranges.

Sportive casual makes and appearance via large functional pants with multi pockets and button up bombers with elastic waistbands while leather biker ‘chiodo’ jackets are perforated.

Floral is large and golden as are the silk pants that sparkle in the twig light. Shirts are lightweight and left unbuttoned for the sensually suave and unpredictable evenings.

Tattoo designed shirts are a mix of beading and transparency cut out in black and white before adding the perfect colourful collarless jacket that falls past the hips in tapestry cum patchwork designs.

Gianfranco Ferre continues to demonstrate time and time again that influences and inspiration is multi faceted, that trends can be created form almost anything and that he is still one of the Master craftsmen of this world they call fashion.
