MILAN, Jun 26, 2006/ FW/ --- Building on ‘Homme Couture’ that he introduced last season, Gianfranco Ferré’s classic looks for men were given a new twist as he added the ‘ME X 32’ prints as an element plus some street influences resulting to an unforgettable and highly covetable collection.
The ‘ME X 32’ is a collection of 32 T-shirts inspired by the nations taking part in the ongoing Football World Cup. These one-of-a-kind tees are currently on display as an exhibition at the Gianfranco Ferré location in the Montanapoleone area.
The original prints in ‘ME X 32’ designed by Gianfranco Ferré is seen his men’s Spring 2007 collection as crests, belt buckle, and prints on shirts and shorts. With denim in the mix, together with carpenter pants inspired trousers, there is a ‘street wear’ feel in the collection.
Opening with the obligatory double-breasted suit that is usually seen in almost all menswear collection, Ferré’s choice of blue patent leather as an outer coat immediately signaled his play on texture and contrast.
And if last season (Fall 2006) is the ‘Men In Black,’ for Spring 2007, Gianfranco Ferré proposes different shades of gray as the main color palette. Tone-on-tone shirts and neckties, matching colors of hats and trench coats, two different tints of gray for a shirt and trousers, the Gianfranco Ferré gent can easily color coordinate himself.
The main fare of the collection might be classic suits; still the Italian design maestro made sure that there is a variety to choose from. Collarless very light knit shirts embellished with ‘ME X 32’ prints, double-breasted cardigans, bomber jackets in python skin, patent leather jackets and embroidered chino shirts, Gianfranco Ferré made sure that the men will have everything under the sun.
As mentioned earlier, denim was introduced in this collection. Though Ferré already makes denim jeans in a few of his secondary lines, seeing it in the premier line is actually surprising.
Paired with suit jackets and short-sleeve t-shirts, it is very easy to imagine a 20-something wearing them. Unfortunately, most of these youngsters cannot afford Gianfranco Ferré. But for those who can… well… ‘How cool is that?’ as kids nowadays say.
