MILAN, Sep 29, 2006/ FW/ --- According to his press notes, Gianfranco Ferré was inspired by relaxation, distention and diversion, something one does while on vacation. And as a result, his Spring / Summer 2007 collection is full of counterpoints, sleek lines melding beautifully with fluidity without losing its architectural integrity.
Seemingly divided into two segments, though, each section converged seamlessly; the first part was sportive and structured. Shorts and tank tops in black and white were layered with short-cropped jackets with big collars.
Mini skirts, dresses and jumpers together with knitted short-cropped cardigans and pullovers made it very playful, the same feeling one get while one is sailing whether it is on a yacht or a cruise ship.
But, please, don’t think of it as a cruise collection, because it is not. The second half proves that point with cocktail dresses and floor-length gowns. Bodices were taut, that charmingly trace the hips to become flowing with layers of ruffles or sheered above the knee for a balloon skirt effect.
Volume was restraint to keep everything structured. Texture was controlled, too with Ferré using stripes and prints to generate it while adding tiny tassels, sequins and embroidery that were all used in moderation.
Strappy stilettos and thin belts were the accessories of choice. Messenger bags, totes and backpacks geared towards a beach setting were also shown.
