MILAN, Feb 28, 2002/ FWD/ --- "Step free and speak easy," advised the refrain of the music
accompanying the Maska show at Milan's trade fair today.
Istvan Francer, Maska's designer, seems to have heeded that advice, presenting a collection
for the woman with a bit of wanderlust.
Nowhere was this clearer than in the zebra motif seen on a few of the vests and safari-ready
looks.
Francer's long silhouettes, exemplified by floor-sweeping pants and skirts that were almost
always flared out at the bottom, furthered the free and easy theme.
There were plenty of soft jersey dresses, with small plissés that resulted in a bit of a
modern Greek goddess look.
Encrusted lace in black and white tweed also made for a beautiful combination on a long skirt
or shawl, accompanied by a sheer black top.
Everything was covered with classic wool coats or long suede coats.
A handful of tweed tailored suits would do very well in the concrete jungle.
The color palette was white, black, brown, and olive green, touched up with sparks of
fuschia, magenta and chartreuse.
Suede shoes completed the look, in both heels and flats.
Francer, who designed Donna Karan's top line for 13 years, was hired by Maska owner Fin.part
in 2000 to help revive the brand.
He seems to be heading in the right direction.
