PARIS, Jul 9, 2004/ FW/ --- With metrosexmania in full swing across the globe’s urban centers, Junya Watanabe focused on the macho Type A personality gentleman who climbs mountains and go on walking treks in the four corners of the world.
Dressing them in bright colors of yellow, blue and red, usually opting for plaid and stripes, the Japanese designer did not want the mountain climbers and hikers to get lost in the wild, their clothes a beacon for the others to see and follow.
And making use of technological advances in fabric, the materials are lightweight yet can protect one from the elements, beginning with the anoraks and windbreakers, must-have items for the Type A personalities who are always on the go.
The cargo pants were cut below the knee and cuffed, perfect for hikes. There are even extra pockets to store a PDA and cell phone, part of our technological world of GPS and wireless connectivity.
The designer even took care that the Junya Watanabe gentleman will look good, no matter how roguish they look after several days without a proper shower and shave, dressing them in geometric and marbleized prints, a welcome look anywhere and everywhere.
And when they are in a lodge, they can look dandy with their tank tops with fringe hems. Even their utility shirts, that has extra pockets for films, tiny digital cameras, or even fish baits just in case look dandy.
With all these advances in design, it is in the use of colors and prints that Junya Watanabe broke new grounds, matching lotus prints with plaid, the usual “sweet looks” reserved for women turned macho as the Junya Watanabe gentleman wore them carelessly with all their sports gear.
