DALLAS, Nov 15, 2003 / FW/ --- The little green crocodile is definitely back with designer Christophe Lemaire’s Spring 2004 collection presented last September in New York.
And its not your parents' Lacoste --- the classic polos and tennis gear --- the garments that made the brand famous.
According to show notes, the collection was inspired by Audrey Hepburn’s “Funny Face” and Gwyneth Paltrow’s “The Royal Tenembaums” (one of the models actually has a striking resemblance to the “Shakespeare In Love” Oscar winner).
The result, a fun mix of tank tops, shirt dresses, striped tops and swimsuits in all the colors of the rainbow.
The collection was young and upbeat with a generous dash of the classic Lacoste, making its target market 18 to 65.
Christophe Lemaire updated the classic Lacoste look, giving the tennis and sports enthusiasts’ crisp V-neck sweaters, cute halter dresses and pleated minis.
With this collection, Lacoste is definitely on the right track with its revival. Lemaire, who took over the design helm from Gilles Rosier in May 2000, showed his first collection for Lacoste during the Fall 2002 Paris menswear season.
In New York, the House of Lacoste decided to show both their men’s wear and women’s wear, plus the accessories – shoes and hats.
Must have accessory from Lacoste, the cute berets that can go anywhere.
