PARIS, Jul 19, 2006/ FW/ --- As Alber Elbaz continues his foray into menswear, the refined elegance that had made the Lanvin womenswear line famous is translated successfully to the male silhouette.

This season, Elbaz chose the genteel era of the 1930s when men wore real penny loafers and two-tone wing tip shoes. From this time frame, Elbaz took the slouchy pants that were rolled slightly at the hem and the snug fitting cardigans worn over a long-sleeved shirt and a tie.

Yet, there is a feeling of modernity to it, the same atmosphere that was created in the 2004 movie ‘Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow’ starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law. Set during the mid-1930s when the Zeppelin airship Hindenburg crashed, the world being invaded by an army of robot, the movie conveyed innocence in a futuristic world without resorting to clichés.

And that is exactly what Alber Elbaz did! A paratrooper jumpsuit worn over a shirt and tie, then layered with a suit jacket, a one-button tuxedo coat paired with a chino and a V-neck pullover worn over a long-sleeved shirt rolled until the elbow – it’s the men of leisure ready to work!

Now, whether ‘work’ means being a deckhand in his own yacht or fixing his private aircraft, or just even telecommuting from his own office at home, we will never know.

But one thing is sure, the Lanvin gents are polished and well-dressed. They can be pirates of Silicon Valley or fierce fighter pilots, or for all we know, he is a real life Joe "Sky Captain" Sullivan, Jude Law’s character in the movie who is the captain of a mercenary legion of pilots.

No matter what their careers are or who they are, Alber Elbaz made sure that they are smartly dressed wherever they go.
